Instructions

Step 1

Sometimes you can take a great sunset photo spontaneously, but if you plan the shot roughly, the result is guaranteed to be good. Of course, one cannot foresee in advance what kind of clouds there will be in the sky and how beautiful the sunset will be. But you can prepare a location for shooting by choosing a landscape perfect for a beautiful sunset. Then, if the sky will delight you with beautiful colors, you can photograph the sunset in the most beneficial way. Sunset usually lasts about 30 minutes. Well, if you choose a location where the entire path of the sun is well tracked, then you can photograph the sunset at different stages.

Step 2

If you have chosen a particular day for shooting a sunset, then find out in advance the time at which it will occur. Try to arrive at the filming location 10-15 minutes early to assess the location, find angles, and adjust the camera.

Step 3

Often people shoot a sunset without any details, but if you add additional elements to the composition, the picture will turn out to be much more interesting. Various silhouettes that appear in the picture against the background of the sunset can give the photo a mood, the picture will turn out to be memorable and unusual.

Step 4

If you go to shoot a sunset with a landscape, then use a lens with a short focus, about 10-20 mm. But if your goal is close-up of the sun, then you can take lenses with a focus up to 200mm. Remember that looking at the sun through the lens while it is still in the sun is very harmful to your eyes. For shooting with a telephoto lens, you will most likely need a tripod. The short throw lens is ideal when you want to capture the entire landscape that is lit up by the sunset.

Step 5

The color of the sunset is brightest and most intense when the sun almost touches the horizon. Another interesting time for shooting is when the sun has already set for 10-12 minutes. Then you should shoot with a long exposure on a tripod, you will get a landscape shot in pink-purple and blue tones.

Step 6

When shooting a sunset, do not forget about the light of the setting sun. Perhaps, while you are looking at the sun, mountains, trees or rocks around you are illuminated by the oblique rays of the sun, and you do not even notice it. The sunset light is one of the most interesting for photographing various objects and people.
