In such cases, as a rule, the description begins with the words: "make a chain of chain stitches and close them in a circle." Or, on the knitting pattern, an ordinary circle is indicated. Unfortunately, it is not always described how this "closure" should be performed.

Step 1
Take yarn and crochet hook. Make a starting loop. To do this, wrap the end of the thread around the crochet hook to form a loop. Pull the working thread through it, holding the intersection with your thumb, and tighten slightly.

To perform the next loop, you need to make a yarn over - put the working thread around the hook. Pull the thread through the loop on the hook. The first air loop is formed under the hook. Proceeding by analogy, tie a chain of the required number of chain stitches. The starting loop on the hook is not taken into account.
Step 3
Complete a connecting post. The connecting post is one of the ways to connect the rows of knitting. As a rule, it is used to connect the end and the beginning of one row.
Step 4
Insert the hook into the last chain loop, carefully pick up the working thread and pull it through the loop. Pull the loop from the air lift loop through the loop on the hook. If you do everything carefully, then the connection will be completely invisible. Knitting is closed in a circle.

On knitting patterns, the connecting post is usually indicated by a filled black dot.

Quite often in descriptions and diagrams you can find the term "half-column without crochet". Despite the fact that it is performed in almost the same way as the connecting post, its purpose is slightly different. The "half-column" is usually an element of some kind of pattern.

In order to knit a half-column without a crochet, you need to put the hook into the loop and pick up the working thread. Pull the working thread through the loop of the previous row. Pass the same loop through the loop on the hook. This is a half-crochet. On diagrams, as a rule, it is indicated by a filled black stripe.
