You don't have to be an experienced seamstress to sew a shirt for a child. It is enough to master the basic sewing machine stitches and choose a simple pattern of a suitable size, with a minimum of complex details. You can even circle old clothes by gently ripping them apart along the inner seams. The product of a free cut without darts and neutral colors will suit both a boy and a girl. On a girl's shirt, it is recommended to additionally make beautiful ties along the waist line and on short sleeves.

It is necessary

  • - cotton cloth;
  • - pattern;
  • - scissors;
  • - iron;
  • - non-woven fabric;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - needle and thread;
  • - buttons;
  • - tapes (if necessary).

Instructions

Step 1

Cut out a children's shirt, leaving standard allowances for connecting seams 1.5 cm in height along the edges of the parts. After that, sew the sides and shoulders of the product on the sewing machine.

Step 2

Prepare small details - collar and hem. It is necessary to iron the adhesive non-woven lining to their seamy part.

Step 3

Fold the outer and inner collar "facing" one another and sew along the seam line. Leave one section unstitched.

Step 4

Trim the seam collar corners 45 degrees and turn the finished piece inside out. Sew a loose section at the collar. Having retreated from the stitched edge 5-7 mm, lay the machine stitch along the front of the fabric.

Step 5

Sew the collar to the hem of the neckline, then overcast the seams. Smooth them well with an iron and lower them down.

Step 6

Hem the hem and sew two stitches along each edge of the garment to the collar - first close to the edge of the details, then at a distance of 5-7 mm from the edge.

Step 7

Finish the bottom of the children's shirt and sew a patch pocket to the shelf. Its bottom can be cut in a semicircle shape.

Step 8

Sew joining seams on the left and right sleeves. Fold the body and sleeves neatly with the right side up. Pin the sleeves to the armhole. In this case, you need to make pencil marks on the sleeve and front of the shirt in advance; on the sleeve seam and side seam; on the shoulder and sleeves. All these marks must be precisely aligned.

Step 9

Sew the sleeve into the shirt, then carefully cut off the seam allowances to 1 cm, join them and overcast. The main work on sewing the shirt is over.

Step 10

Overcast buttonholes on the left shelf and sew on buttons. At this stage of sewing, you can change the product from a boy's to a girl's: just make additional loops along the waistline and at the bottom of each sleeve. Place in pairs about 1 cm apart - one pair for each sleeve and two pairs for the waist.

Step 11

You just have to insert ribbons of a suitable color into the resulting slots and tie them with bows. At the waist, they can be used both for decorative purposes and as a belt.
