A photo session is a series of photographs united by one character or one subject. To create a good photo session, it is necessary to discuss the concept of shooting with the model in advance, prepare props, technical equipment and photographic equipment.

Instructions

Step 1

The first condition for a good shooting is competent work with the model. If the model (s) is not professional, then it is better to divide the work with the client into 2 stages: preliminary conversation and work in front of the camera. The first discussion takes place when ordering a photo shoot: here you need to decide on the direction of the shooting, the general idea. It is necessary to immediately discuss whether the shooting will be carried out in the studio or on the open air, what props will be used by the photographer in the process, what clothes you need to take with you, whether a make-up artist will be needed.

Step 2

If the photo session is commercial, then it is worth signing an agreement defining the rights to photographs, as well as clarifying the points of payment. At the same moment, the photographer must win over the model for more productive subsequent work. Just before and during shooting, you need to comment on your actions so that people know what is happening and are not afraid to be in front of the lens.

Step 3

The best thing to do is to explain that the first few shots are always taken for “shooting” in order to determine how to adjust the exposure, check the quality of light, contrast, etc. model.

Step 4

Shooting outdoors involves natural light. The softest and most beautiful light occurs at sunrise (about 1 hour before and after sunrise) and at sunset. This time is called "golden hours" in photography. In cloudy weather, natural light is also much softer than in sunny weather.

Step 5

When shooting with a lot of props and clothes, it is better to ask someone you know to become an assistant during the shooting. It is advisable that neither the model nor the photographer be distracted by the design of the frame, as this takes a lot of time and confuses the working mood. It is best to discuss with the assistant in advance the location of certain design details. In addition, an assistant can always help with additional light sources, can hold a reflector or a softbox. Even with studio photography, the presence of an assistant greatly facilitates the process of a photo session.

Step 6

Photo equipment should also be checked in advance, before going to the studio or on the air. It's worth charging the main and additional batteries for the camera in the evening. It is also better to take with you 2-3 additional flash cards, a lens cleaner from dust and fingerprints. If the weather forecast suggests rain, it is worth bringing a waterproof case for your camera and lenses.
