The romance of the profession of a stuntman attracts many boys who dream of learning various tricks and acting in cult films, earning big money. However, in order to become a professional stuntman, you need to learn a lot, not get serious injuries in the process of training and become the best - since there are more than enough competitors in the stunt world. So how do you become a stuntman and what does it take to do it?
Who is a stuntman
Stuntmen are those who perform dangerous and complex stunts that are most often used in cinematography. The task of the stuntman is to duplicate the main actor who is not physically prepared to perform this or that trick - although some trained actors do quite successfully themselves in the stunt work.
Basically, the profession of a stuntman is chosen by strong and flexible young people who are fans of risk, extreme and adrenaline.
When replacing or dubbing the main cast for filming, stuntmen are chosen who resemble the actors in physique. Then they are suitably made up and in the process of performing the trick they are not filmed in full face, therefore the audience usually does not notice the substitution and believe that the trick was performed by the actors themselves. Because of this, the profession of a stuntman is considered one of the most well-paid, but thankless jobs - after all, a stuntman remains an unknown "consumable" and often gets very serious injuries, after which it is almost impossible to return to duty.
What does a future stuntman need
To become a stuntman, first of all, of course, you need to have excellent health and good physical fitness. To perform tricks, you need to constantly maintain your shape, give up bad habits and periodically improve yourself. It is also a necessary requirement to join the Guild of Film Actors - this is a mandatory rule for all professional stuntmen.
It is desirable for a stuntman to have some risky hobby - mountaineering, parkour, rafting on mountain rivers, jumping from high-rise buildings, and so on.
In order to fully master the profession, a novice stuntman needs to take training courses for professional stuntmen, where they teach the technique, safety rules and other intricacies of the stuntman's work. At the same time, the stuntman must be ready for great physical and mental stress, so the weak are eliminated rather quickly.
To get a job, you need to make a resume and send it to the agents who are engaged in the casting selection of stunt personnel for filming. The competition in this profession is quite high, since there are enough prepared daredevils today - however, “fresh” young stuntmen who know how to perform any tricks with high quality will be appreciated always and everywhere.
