Personal life of Vasily Shukshin

For the first time, Vasily married his fellow villager, school teacher Maria Shumskaya. Disappointment in this marriage befell Vasily on the very first day of life together: the young managed to quarrel as soon as they left the registry office. Soon Vasily left for Moscow. The young wife refused to go with him. And two years later, Vasily sent her a letter asking for a divorce. Maria did not give him a divorce, so the young student of VGIK had to "lose" his passport in order to get the opportunity to marry again.

Vasily's first wife never gave birth to children. And marriage with her was more of a formality than a strong family.

In 1963, Shukshin married Victoria Sofronova, daughter of the Soviet writer Anatoly Sofronov. In this marriage, Vasily's first daughter, Ekaterina Shukshina, was born. It is noteworthy that Catherine was born in 1965, when her father and mother were already divorced, and Vasii was also married to his third wife.

Soon Vasily divorced Victoria and in 1964 married a young actress Lydia Alexandrova. The relationship did not last long: Lida left her husband because of his numerous betrayals and endless drunkenness.

In the same 1964, Shukshin met another actress Lydia Fedoseeva and fell in love with her. After 3 years, he will leave Alexandrova and make Fedoseyev his legal wife. In this marriage, Shukshin becomes the father of two daughters: Maria and Olga.

Both daughters will later become actresses, but only Maria Shukshina will become widely known. Lydia Fedoseeva-Shukshina will remain Vasily's wife until his death.

Vasily Shukshin died in 1974 of a heart attack. Shortly before the death of the writer and director, his peptic ulcer sharply worsened, although before filming Vasily underwent a full medical examination, which did not reveal any pathologies. That is why the exact cause of the ulcer has not yet been clarified: either it was the result of his alcohol addictions, or Vasily was deliberately poisoned.

Ekaterina Shukshina

Born in 1965 in Moscow in the family of Vasily Shukshin and writer-critic Victoria Sofronova-Shukshina. Catherine's father and mother broke up long before her birth, so Catherine does not remember her dad. And after birth, they met extremely rarely.

Until the age of seven, the girl did not bore any surname. She had a dash in the “father” column on her birth certificate. Only by entering the first grade did Vasily Shukshin give her his last name through the registry office.
