An unusual decorative mask will decorate any interior. It can be made from many materials, but the easiest to work with is still ordinary plaster. It is easy to process, easy to use, non-toxic and any paints perfectly fit on it.
It is necessary
- - Plaster;
- - Plasticine;
- - Furniture varnish;
- - Copper wire;
- - Brush.
Instructions
Step 1
Model making. On a flat board, mold a model of the future mask from plasticine. Do not try to make it too pretentious, with protruding details, as this will make it difficult to cast the product in plaster.
Step 2
Making a mold for casting. This operation is necessary because for casting a mask, the shape must have an inverse image. Dilute the gypsum to the consistency of liquid sour cream. Apply the solution to the clay mold in layers. Apply the first layers with a brush, try not to form bubbles or voids. Can then be applied with a trowel or flat trowel. Apply the plaster of Paris until the mold is strong enough. In order to increase the strength of the casting mold, place copper wire between the layers. Make something like a reinforcement mesh out of it. This is especially necessary if your mask will be large. Use only copper wire to avoid yellow streaks in the plaster.
Step 3
Correction of the finished form. After about half an hour, the plaster will harden and become quite hard. Now turn the mold over and remove the plasticine model. If any flaws are formed during the hardening of the gypsum, trim them with a scalpel. You can also smooth the surface with an abrasive paper. If the gypsum rings slightly when tapped, then it has dried well. Cover the inside of the mold with colorless furniture varnish.
Step 4
Making a mask. The plaster can now be diluted again. Pour the plaster of Paris into the casting mold. Pour in carefully, make sure that the solution falls evenly and fills all the voids. In the still wet plaster of Paris, press the wire loop on which you will hang the mask. Wait until the product is dry and carefully remove it from the mold. Trim with a scalpel and sandpaper. Now you can paint and varnish the mask, or you can leave it untreated. The pure white color of gypsum looks good in many interiors.
