Think about what exactly you have drawn. This is important even if you are drawing from life. What do you want to draw the viewer's attention to? What is important in the picture, what can be considered secondary? If you have drawn a battle scene and it is important for you that some kind of battle is depicted there, you can call the picture that. But it may very well be that the behavior of a person in this battle is important. Then, of course, his name should be in the title. The same goes for the rest of the genres. Call the still life "blue asters" if in this case it is the color that is important to you, and "fancy tree" if you liked the shape of the trunk.

The name of the person depicted is most often written on the portrait. However, this is not necessary at all. Remember what you paid attention to when you decided to paint a portrait of this particular person. This may be his profession, features of appearance or clothing. And the viewer should notice exactly what you liked.

Consider how seriously the viewer should take what is depicted. Call a serious picture simply, in one or two words or in a short phrase. You can also dream up the name of a comic creation. In this case, use an aphorism or even a full explanation of what you have drawn. It may even be a short story about the heroes and their actions. The main thing is that it should be clear and not too long.

After choosing several options for the name, decide where and how you write them. The inscription can be either on a special plate or on the painting itself. It all depends on the style and tasks that the artist sets for himself. The viewer should read the inscription made on the canvas from a distance of several steps. The inscription on the plate usually matches the style of not only the painting itself, but also the room in which it hangs. It should also be easy to read.
