The Roman candle is a pyrotechnic product that fires several charges with equal time intervals to a height of up to forty meters. The effects of a Roman candle, namely very bright short flashes of various colors, can be complemented by noise and sound elements - pops, whistles, crackles and short bursts. The process of making a Roman candle is divided into three main stages: the production of mortars; projectile production; filling the mortar with ready-made shells.

Instructions

Step 1

Making mortars:

In order to make a mortar, take paper, spread it with glue and carefully wrap it on the wedge until the walls of the mortar reach the desired thickness. Next, remove the mortar from the witch and dry it. Then you hammer one of its ends with plaster (or a wooden cylinder) on glue, fix the cylinder itself with additional nails (if the diameter is large). After thoroughly drying the plug, insert several cardboard wads directly to the bottom of the mortar.

Step 2

Making shells:

To make a projectile, it is necessary to roll the required number of tubes, in turn, the tube must freely enter the mortar. Plug the tubes on one side with plaster, before threading the wick. For the filling of the projectile, you can take any stars, mix them with a bursting compound and hammer into the projectile. Next, drive a wad on top of the stars, and pour gypsum on top of it. Then let the plaster dry thoroughly. On the lower part of the projectile, you can apply any lubricant from the composition available to you.

Step 3

The third stage is the main one, the result depends on it. This is the manufacture of an expelling charge. It is worth noting that the expelling charge must consist exclusively of granulated powder. The manufacturing process is as follows:

Insert the wick into the mortar, pour in the granulated gunpowder, insert the wad and lower it with the help of the wad as far as it will go, insert the projectile, hammer the wad with the central channel well, insert the projectile and drive two or three deaf wads. Repeat this procedure. By the way, do not hammer the mortar completely, leave ten to fifteen centimeters - for high shots. Make the filling in such a way that the wick is not damaged; take an expelling charge in the amount of 1/3 of the total weight of the charge.
