Each piece of music is a combination of a melodic line (that is, a melody) and a harmonic line (a specific chord sequence). It is impossible to learn how to play a piece of music on the guitar without understanding what chords accompany that melody and how to play them.

Step 1
Learn Latin chord names. The letter in the chord name corresponds to a specific note. So, F corresponds to the note "F", G - the note "G", B - the note "B flat" and so on.
Step 2
Pay attention to the sign next to the chord. It can be flat ("b") or sharp ("#"). A flat indicates a decrease in the note by a semitone, and a sharp, respectively, indicates an increase in a note by a semitone.
Step 3
Think about the structure of your guitar. The location of the chords is determined by how many strings the guitar has (6 or 7). Find a simple major chord and try on your guitar to play the sounds that make up it. And then check what you got with the suggested options for this chord in the chord chart. Play each of these variations.
Step 4
Do the same research with a simple minor chord. It is designated by the Latin letter m.
Step 5
Learn to work with tabs. These instrumental notations indicate how the chords are labeled on the guitar fretboard. Moreover, they even show how to place your fingers correctly and which strings you need to press with your fingers in order to play a particular chord.
Step 6
Download a self-study book on music theory on the Internet. In such literature, as a rule, everything is explained simply and clearly.
