Lightweight, flowing, elastic supplex fabric is most popular with circus artists, ballroom dancers, sports gymnasts. Suits made of this material fit the body like a second skin, do not hinder movement, allow moisture to pass through well, and perfectly restore their original shape. The basis of the fabric is lycra, microfiber, lurex, elastane. In fact, it is a very thin and durable knitted fabric. To work with it, you need certain skills.
It is necessary
- - a household sewing machine performing a zigzag stitch;
- - overlock;
- - textured threads.
Instructions
Step 1
Before sewing, try sewing on a piece of fabric. You may need additional adjustment of the machine (zigzag 1-2 mm step 2-3 mm).
Step 2
Get the foot for sewing stretch fabrics: a special lever creates additional force to advance the fabric, and it does not gather or slide out. You also need quality, textured threads that can stretch with the fabric. In addition, choose a # 75 needle and a double needle for attaching the elastic.
Step 3
Cut the elastic of the product by 2.5-3 cm less than the main fabric and sew with a zigzag tension: from the seamy side to the edge, then tuck it up and stitch it again.
Step 4
Use a twin needle for hemming and finishing stitches. Overlock the edges of panties, for example, for a swimsuit, tuck and stitch with a double needle, then insert an elastic band.
Step 5
For darts, set the machine to a wider step and sew not with a zigzag, but with a regular seam, you can directly reinforce it. Such a seam will be elastic and will not tighten the fabric.
Step 6
Cut the supplex immediately according to the pattern with a seam allowance. Make the stitches on the right side of the canvas. If a mesh is used, then cut it with a margin and after sewing, cut it close to the seam.
Step 7
The elasticity of the fabric on the skirt is achieved by sewing in a soft regilin into the hem. You can sew a supplex edge on the bottom of the product or make the edges heavier with an "American".
