How important it is for ballroom dancing to have a beautiful dress in which you will feel comfortable, confident and purposefully go to victory. It does not matter in what age category and in what skill class the dancer performs, the dress must fit perfectly.
What should be a ball gown
The spectators who came to the tournament see an abundance of original dance outfits. Attention is drawn to the variety of styles and colors. Despite the variety of ballroom models, they must comply with the standard set for competition costumes.
The partner dances the European program in a long dress. It should not be simple, but also not defiant. Beauty, elegance, romance - these are the criteria that an outfit must meet. When developing a sketch for a costume, it must be borne in mind that the partner almost always turns her back to the audience.
Latin American dances are performed in a dress with a short or medium length skirt. A suit from a skirt and a top is allowed. The main task of the Latin American outfit is to emphasize the dynamics and sexuality of the dance, so it should be open (but no more than allowed by the rules) and comfortable.
The basis of any dress is a swimsuit, to which a skirt and jewelry are sewn. For the first tournaments, you can sew a dress yourself. The basis of the dress is sewn from an elastic material - supplex, which is difficult to work with and requires certain skills and abilities.
Sewing a ballroom costume
Start sewing a ball gown with a swimsuit (panties), then the bodice is done, the next step is sewing a skirt. The sewn elements must be assembled: the bodice must be stitched to the skirt, this must be done carefully so that the seams are not visible. The dress should have a good fit, not hinder movement, because you will have to do stretching in it.
You can work the top edge of the skirt with a roll and sew it on to the swimsuit, use a zigzag seam or sew on the arms. The waist, as a rule, is made lowered to bring the figure closer to the standards of the "Golden Section". Sew panties to the dress. If a swimsuit is taken as a basis, sew a skirt to it.
Insert an elastic band into the cutouts for the legs in the panties, make a fastener (buttons) in the groin seam. Sew cups and straps to the bodice. Finish the dress by decorating it. Sew the stones and jewelry securely so that they do not fall off at the most inopportune moment.
Treat the seams well, they should not chafe the body, professionals process the seams on a cover sewing machine, but you can do with a simple household sewing machine if it performs operations such as "zigzag", "home overlock". Pay special attention to the quality of the seams, they must be elastic and strong.
The bottom of the suit, depending on the material from which it is made, can be processed on an overlock or sealed with a regelin. A possible option is an untreated cut, if it does not twist.
