The sea is an immense expanse of water stretching beyond the horizon. The artist's task is not just to transfer the seascape with photographic accuracy, he must, with the help of a brush and paint, convey the moods and feelings that he experiences at the sight of this majestic picture.

It is necessary

  • - surface for drawing (cardboard, canvas);
  • - gouache;
  • - a set of hard brushes;
  • - a container with water;
  • - palette;
  • - a cloth;
  • - a tablet for fixing the sheet.

Instructions

Step 1

Draw the background. Draw the horizon line exactly in the middle or shift it slightly upward. Paint the sky with a smooth transition from blue to white. You can depict air clouds or massive clouds if desired. To make the transition from the sky to the sea smooth, paint part of the sky with blue or blue paint, and the other part with white, then mix the paint on the border with a wide brush with sweeping horizontal strokes. If you want to depict a sunset or blossom, then instead of white gouache, it would be appropriate to use pink or orange.

Step 2

Paint over the sea itself with blue and white paints. It is not at all necessary to apply strokes strictly horizontally. The sea must live, and this is portrayed with the help of waves. Make strokes in different directions, use a large brush.

Step 3

Mix yellow with green paint, add a little white. This dark greenish color will serve as the basis for a large wave, which will be the compositional center of the drawing. Over the base of the wave on the green stripe, spread the paint with a harder brush, giving movement to the wave. Use a mixture of blue, purple and white gouache to paint the shadow from the wave.

Step 4

Mix blue and purple. This paint is useful for enhancing the seascape and for drawing ripples on the water in places where there are no waves.

Step 5

Be attentive to the details. For realism, use the entire palette of blues and purples. Use white gouache to paint the lather and splash. This can be done with a stiff bristled brush. Just dip it in gouache and use dotted movements to depict foam or spray paint along the entire wavelength.

Step 6

If the picture will contain a coastline, rocks or other objects, such as a ship, boat, birds, fish, their image should be drawn in no less detail than the waves themselves. This way you will preserve the integrity of the picture and keep it in the same style.
