Drawing animals, especially kittens and puppies, is very popular both for novice artists who are just trying their hand at the art of drawing, and for experienced graphics. It is not difficult to draw a sleeping kitten with a pencil, with a realistic figure and fluffy white fur. In this article, we will guide you through the step-by-step creation of such a drawing.

Instructions

Step 1

Start by sketching with a soft pencil. Beginners can paint using a photograph or a real sleeping kitten. Sketch on paper the main composition of the future drawing, try to transfer the proportions of the kitten in the lines.

Step 2

It is convenient to color a kitten with high-quality colored pencils. In a sketchbook on one of the pages, make a color map of pencils, filling in a square with each color. From the shades obtained, select the ones that you will use in the drawing, and set aside the suitable pencils from the packaging for further work.

Step 3

You will need a light pink color, and you can use shades of blue, greenish and blue for the background. Take a clean copy paper and draw out the outlines of the sleeping kitten with a light gray pencil, outlining its torso, tail and head.

Step 4

When drawing the head, carefully observe its proportions in relation to the body. The kitten's tail is shorter than that of an adult cat, and the paws are only outlined - they are hidden inside the body, since the kitten is curled up in a sleeping position. Draw the ears on the sides of the head. The kitten's eyes should be closed.

Step 5

Now that you have outlined the outlines of the kitten, take a pencil of the background color and begin to apply the folds and outlines of the background fabric with soft shading, outlining the outline of the kitten from the outside. Add another color and paint the folds of the background, completely filling it with color and giving the folds volume with darker and lighter areas of color.

Step 6

Filling the background with color before the kitten itself will allow you to correct its contours again. Now start to finalize the contours of the kitten, giving them the texture of the coat. Use a gray and bluish pencil for this, creating the effect of fluffy fur with shading.

Step 7

Add shadows where necessary, also using hatching in the direction of the fur. Cover the deepest shadows with the darkest colors.

Step 8

If you are painting with watercolor pencils, you can soften your drawing even further by dampening the brush in water and tracing the background around the kitten with it, blurring it slightly. It is not necessary to wet the kitten's fur - it should retain a clear texture.

Step 9

Dry the drawing and with a pink pencil add a few strokes on the ears and face of the kitten. Complete the remaining deep shadows on the background of the lying kitten below with a dark gray pencil. By mixing bluish and pinkish colors, you can also add a few touches of color to the coat to give it a more authentic look.
