Perhaps you have always dreamed of publishing a book, of bringing a piece of yourself into this world with the help of the printed word. If you have a manuscript or typed material that can be released to the public, then it's time to think about printing.
Instructions
Step 1
If you decide to print a book at your own expense, then dozens of printers are already waiting for your order. Depending on the tasks set, the book can be published in a small print run. For this you need to call the printing house and place an order. To save on printing costs, choose paperback and offset or newsprint for your book.
Typically, printing a book with a circulation of ten thousand copies with savings on paper and binding costs a couple of thousand US dollars. But on the other hand, you will receive the entire circulation in your hands and will be able to dispose of it at your own discretion.
Step 2
There is an option to print a book through a publisher if your work is written at a decent level and may interest the reader. To do this, you need to send copies in electronic or handwritten form to publishers and try to draw the attention of professionals to your creation.
Perhaps in the first or second you will get a refusal. Don't worry, offer your work to other specialized companies. You should not avoid small publishers, there is a chance to print the book through them.
If the publisher is interested in the work, an author's contract is concluded with you for a certain period. Agree that on subsequent reprints of the book, you will be entitled to a percentage of the sales. Try to exclude from the contract the clause on paying you a fee only after the circulation is sold, otherwise you may not see the money.
Step 3
Before printing the work, take care of the imprint of the book, the ISBN number, UDC, LBC codes and the copyright mark. If a publishing house is engaged in your work, then it can do it for you, but only if it is registered with the Russian Book Chamber and has the right to do so.
ISBN is the international identifier for each book. Without it, your work will not be able to go on free sale. In order for libraries to accept the book into their collections, a LBC code is assigned. UDC defines what kind of knowledge the work belongs to. The author's mark consists of a letter and two numbers, located under the BBK index. The assignment of identifiers is carried out by the Russian Book Chamber.
Do not forget about the copyright mark in the imprint - (c) Copyright. It is used in conjunction with the name of the author or the legal name of the firm that owns the copyright.
Step 4
According to the Federal Law of the Russian Federation "On the obligatory copy of documents", you must send from 3 to 16 books (depending on the type of publication) to the Russian Book Chamber for accounting. Late dispatch of a printed publication is considered an administrative offense.
