For a photo that you want to place in the most prominent place, you need a special frame. And, although the choice of ready-made products in the store is very wide, sometimes you still want some kind of non-standard, deeply personal design when designing your favorite pictures. A homemade frame can also be a good gift for a close friend, because in the design you can encrypt what is understandable only to people who know each other very well. From fragments of everyday gizmos, habitual actions and moments frozen in the frame, like from a colored mosaic, a motley picture of human relations is formed.
It is necessary
- - wooden photo frame;
- - a lot of plastic cards / business cards / postcards;
- - PVA glue;
- - scissors;
- - acrylic paint;
- - varnish;
- - brushes for glue, paint and varnish.
Instructions
Step 1
Remarkable in its simplicity and, at the same time, unexpectedness is the idea of a photo frame, decorated using the mosaic technique with pieces of cut plastic cards. You can also use colorful business cards and postcards. To make such an original frame, take a ready-made wooden frame of a suitable size.
Step 2
Paint the surface of the photo frame with acrylic paint on all sides. Choose a paint color that suits your photo and contrasts with the diversity of the mosaic elements - the plastic cards used. Use a wide bristle brush to quickly cover the entire frame with paint. When the wood surface is dry, cover it with a second coat of paint and dry the frame again. Acrylic paints dry very quickly, so 20-30 minutes will be enough for drying, in some cases - 1 hour.
Step 3
While the paint is drying, prepare a consumable for laying out the mosaic. Cut plastic cards (or business cards, postcards) with scissors into small pieces of different sizes. The average size of a part is approximately 1.5 × 1.5 cm. The pieces can be uneven, rectangular or even triangular in shape.
Step 4
Starting from any corner, lay the mosaic pattern over the surface of the frame. Do the work in sections: first, pick up the pieces of the mosaic on the corner of the frame, carefully lay them out, as your artistic flair tells you, and then glue them, smearing them with PVA glue. Leave small gaps of 1-5 mm between the mosaic elements, although they can be laid end-to-end. Lay out the next section of the frame in the same way.
Step 5
Continue these steps until you have pasted over the entire surface of the frame with colored pieces. When picking up the mosaic particles, make sure that the edges of the frame are even and neat. From elements of different colors, you can lay out patterns, numbers or words on the frame. To do this, try to find a sufficient number of cards in contrasting colors.
Step 6
Cover the frame with varnish. Use varnishes suitable for covering plastic (for example, special decoupage varnish or furniture varnish) so that it can dry well on the product and shine beautifully. A varnish brush needs a wide bristle brush. The varnish is usually applied in two layers with intermediate drying.
