There are many varieties of aloe. They strike with their leaves, thorns, size or color. And yet, the most common type of aloe for our apartments is tree aloe. Aloe, which is rightfully called the green doctor. Its juice is used to treat a cold, purulent diseases, to enhance immunity and as a cosmetic. But aloe tree is very rarely sold in stores, and the easiest way to get a prickly doctor at home is to reproduce by layering.
It is necessary
- Adult aloe plant (A. arborescens)
- Ready soil for cacti
- Washed sand
- Pot
- Expanded clay or fine gravel
Instructions
Step 1
Cut a stalk from an adult aloe plant. Try to cut the cutting with at least three pairs of leaves. The plant from which the cutting is cut must be strong and healthy. With a weakened mother plant and cuttings will be weakened. Dry the cutting for a few days. Do not hurry. Aloe cuttings can take root even after three weeks of drying.
Step 2
Aloe is a succulent, so it rots more often in water than takes root. Don't take risks. Root the aloe in the same way as all succulents - in the ground. Mix cactus soil with washed sand in a 1: 1 ratio.
Step 3
At the bottom of the pot, lay a layer of expanded clay or fine gravel for drainage. If you are used to watering your houseplants every day, be sure to drain well and make sure the drainage holes in the pot are not clogged. This will keep your aloe out of the bay until you get used to the succulent watering regimen.
Step 4
Plant the cutting in the ground, do not bury it too deeply, it is enough if the bottom pair of leaves barely touches the surface of the ground. If the cutting is unstable, place a layer of fine gravel over the soil. Pour gently and place in a bright, warm place. Aloe is a child of the deserts, so it does not need high humidity during rooting. Do not put a pot of rooting aloe stalk in a mini greenhouse. But he needs a lot of sun, and preferably bright.
Step 5
It can take two to four weeks for the cuttings to take root. It is very important to observe the watering regime during this period. Better to have less water than more. This plant is adapted to long periods of drought, but practically does not tolerate waterlogging. Aloe takes root better if watered only after it is completely dry, carefully monitor this. You will understand that your baby is rooted when you see a new piece of paper peeping out of the socket.
