Making figurines out of straw is an ancient Celtic custom that marks the end of the field work season, the beginning of a new year, and the arrival of spring. In the countries of Western Europe and Scandinavia, it was customary to make female figurines, as well as figurines of domestic animals. A goat, and in Scandinavia, a straw deer decorate the house for Christmas.

It is necessary

  • For New Year's Straw Deer:
  • - wire;
  • - straw;
  • - scissors;
  • - thick brown paper.
  • For a New Year's cone deer:
  • - acorn;
  • - fir cones;
  • - toothpicks, twigs;
  • - glue;
  • - awl;
  • - red bead.

Instructions

Step 1

Straw deer

Make the frame of the toy from the wire: take four identical pieces, they will serve as the front and back legs. Each section should be twice as long as the future leg (if you have thin wire, twist a few pieces of wire to make sections of the appropriate thickness). Four lengths of thick, flexible wire of equal length are used for the front and hind legs.

Step 2

Form the wire into a frame for the head, neck and torso: take a piece of wire about four times the length of the leg and bend it in half. Bend the resulting blank like a capital letter "g" with a strongly elongated lower end, 3-4 times longer than the upper end. Part the parallel pieces of wire a little to make the frame more bulky.

Step 3

Twist the ends of the wire ("tail") together. Screw your legs to the body. Cover the finished frame with straw: take a short and dense bundle of straw, fold it in half and put it on the front of the frame - on the head and neck, tie in the middle of the neck, the bottom where the legs begin, divide in half and tie at the base of the legs, in the middle ("knees") and below.

Step 4

Deer from cones

Take twigs, toothpicks, they will serve to connect parts of the craft and as a tail and legs. Take an acorn, make three holes in it closer to the thick end using an awl: two on top, one on the bottom. The upper two will serve for the horns, and the lower one will connect the head to the body.

Step 5

Sharpen the ends of the horns and insert them into the holes. Choose one large bump for the torso and one smaller and narrower for the neck. Make two holes at opposite ends of the small bump, also make holes in the large bump - on top where the neck should start, on the opposite side at the butt for the tail, and four holes on the bottom for the legs. Connect the lump-neck and the lump-torso with the help of toothpicks, put the head-acorn on the neck, also with the help of a toothpick.

Step 6

Glue on the red nose bead. Sharpen the ends of the leg twigs and the short twig and insert into the holes. You can use bottle caps instead of buds of different sizes.
