Rapunzel. A Tangled Story”- the jubilee, fiftieth feature-length cartoon from Disney Studios, directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard and released in 2010. This is the first and most expensive Disney classic 3D cartoon.
Instructions
Step 1
The idea to film an adapted version of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale was born by Walt Disney himself back in the 40s, but, unfortunately, remained unrealized. The multipliers got down to business in 2007. In an effort to make the story more fresh, dynamic and fun, they also reworked the characters of the characters. Modern Rapunzel turned out to be more independent and brave than in the original fairy tale. In addition, the English version of the cartoon is called Tangled: the company decided to change the title to appeal to a wider audience, as they thought the word “princess” or the name of a princess in the title would only appeal to little girls.
Step 2
In addition, the writers in the course of work came to the conclusion that there will be two main characters in the story - Rapunzel and the adventurer Flynn. This is the most striking and thoughtful male character of all Disney fairy tales about princesses. According to one of the directors Howard, one day they brought all the women in the studio to a meeting called "Awesome Man" to figure out what the ideal handsome man should be. In the end, as Grenot says, perfection was created.
Step 3
The production of the cartoon was extremely time consuming and painstaking. The style of "Rapunzel …" was inspired by the painting of the French Rococo painter Jean Honore Fragonard "The Swing, or the Serendipitous Accidents of the Swing". The creators strove for the cartoon to be sustained in the best traditions of the old hand-drawn Disney - but in three-dimensional format. Many technological methods and tricks were developed by the studio already in the process of working on the cartoon.
Step 4
So, to simulate the lively iridescent luxurious hair of a princess (having a length of 21 meters), Dynamic Wires technology was invented. 147 different hair samples were animated and eventually 140,000 individual strands were modeled.
Step 5
Rapunzel is at the intersection of comedy and musical genres, and musical accompaniment plays an important role in it. The music was written by Alan Menken. According to him, the first thing he did was reread the original tale. When working on the scale, he decided to mix medieval folk music and 60s folk rock like Cat Stevens, Johnny Mitchell and others.
