Homemade camping equipment has not lost its relevance, despite the fact that the range of tents, awnings, backpacks and other things necessary for the hike is quite large. But things bought in a store do not always meet the requirements of specific participants in a particular trip. An awning is necessary so that the rain does not flood the fire. A small awning may be needed for some tent designs. To be sure that the awning will not let you down, it is better to sew it yourself from reliable high-quality materials.

It is necessary

  • Calendered nylon or calendered lavsan
  • Parachute lines or bodice
  • Rubber glue
  • Nylon threads
  • Cotton thread for basting
  • Needles
  • Sewing machine
  • Waist plastic bottle
  • Scissors

Instructions

Step 1

Calculate the amount of fabric. In which direction to cut the calendered fabric is absolutely all the same, so count by the area of the awning. As a rule, the width of such a fabric ranges from 140 to 150 cm, so 24 m of such fabric will be needed for a 6x6 fire awning. In general, the wider the fabric, the better, since there will be fewer seams. Mark the fabric into 6m rectangles, plus a slight hem allowance on the short side. On the long side, you have an edge that you don't need to cut.

Step 2

Fold the fabrics that will be located at the edges 2 times by 0.7-1 cm, sweep and stitch. Make sure the seams are symmetrical.

Step 3

In the middle, you will also have two panels. Lay them side by side, face up and so that the cuts of the future middle seam coincide. Find the middle of these cuts and burn it with a dot. Cut the bottle at the waist. Place it in the middle of the seam and circle it so that you get even semicircles on one and the other panel. Burn the semicircles, stepping back slightly from the marked line into the ring.

Step 4

Cut out a ring 6-10 cm wide from the same fabric or from a denser one, the inner diameter of which is slightly smaller than the "waist" of the bottle. This ring is needed in order to close the seam with which you will sew the bottle to the middle of the awning. Adjust the ring to the desired size by making 2 longitudinal cuts so that the allowance fits snugly around the bottle. The bottle, in turn, is needed to insert the end of the rack there, with which you will pull the awning over the fire.

Step 5

Sweep and stitch together the central panels, leaving the middle unsewn (about 2 cm before the hole and the same after). Sew the bottle into the hole. This is best done by hand with any seam available. The main thing is that the bottle sits firmly and does not fall out. Glue the securing ring on top so that it completely covers the seam. …

Step 6

Stitch the side panels to the central part. You can hem the awning around the perimeter, but since you have an edge on both sides, and burnt fabric on the other two, you don't need to do this, the awning will not fall apart along the thread. But the hemmed item looks neater. Hem it by folding it twice 0.7-1 cm.

Step 7

Make stretch loops. Cut 4 pieces of lanyard, 40 cm each, fold them in half and stitch on the bottom of the awning. If you wish, you can make 1 more loop in the center. Glue the seams with rubber glue so that water does not seep into the holes from the needle. …
