The phrase "You don't know anything, Jon Snow …" is quite common on the Internet and refers to one of the main characters of the television series "Game of Thrones". Often, even viewers who are well acquainted with the fantastic saga do not immediately understand the meaning of what has been said, so it is worthwhile to understand this issue in more detail.

Who is Jon Snow

Jon Snow is one of the main characters in the television series Game of Thrones, which in turn is based on a series of science fiction novels by writer George Martin. John is the illegitimate son of the ruler of the northern lands of Westeros, Eddard Stark, a bastard who has no right to bear the surname of a lord and is traditionally called Snow. He also does not claim the right to inherit the northern throne, unlike Eddard's legitimate children - Robb, Bran, Rickon, Sansa and Arya.

All his childhood and adolescence, Jon Snow, brought by his father to the family castle, spent in ridicule on the part of most of his half-brothers, as well as those close to the family. Only Eddard Stark respected his son and taught him the art of war. As a result, John grew up not very talkative and confident, and not trusting almost anyone. However, he had a rather highly developed sense of honor and duty, which made the bastard think about his further military career (therefore, it would initially be strange to say that Jon Snow did not know anything).

Knowing that he would virtually not be respected anywhere due to his origins, John decided to join the Brotherhood of the Night's Watch - an order that guards the northernmost border of the kingdom, surrounded by a high wall of ice. Warriors of the Night's Watch vow to be loyal to the brotherhood for the rest of their lives and do not actually leave the walls of their monastery. Jon Snow successfully joined the Night's Watch, donning all black and bringing a sacred meal to the fraternity.

The origin of the famous phrase

The unsociability, suspicion and wayward character of Jon Snow were immediately negatively noted by the military leaders of the Night's Watch. He was far from the best versed in the characters and aspirations of people, although he showed himself as a rather skillful warrior. As a result, he and a group of other "crows" were sent on a reconnaissance campaign on the other side of the ice wall, where militant and cruel people, called "wildlings", lived.

During the campaign, John was captured by the wildlings and almost lost his life. However, he managed to convince opponents that he would show them how to penetrate the wall, planning to escape at the first opportunity. A group of wildlings together with John set off towards the castle of the Night's Watch. Among them was a red-haired girl named Ingritt, who showed sympathy for the prisoner. Later, a real and mutual feeling flared up between the young people.

Before that, the young bastard had never been with a girl, so his communication with Ingritt and courting her looked somewhat ridiculous. It was at such moments that she said: “You don't know anything, Jon Snow,” thus emphasizing his amusing naivety, youthful maximalism and ostentatious self-confidence. Viewers and fans of the series liked the phrase, and they began to actively use it in everyday and virtual communication, often with the names of their acquaintances, various celebrities and movie characters. The meaning of the meme, as in the case of the original, is to show that the person does not understand what he is doing or saying.
