On July 14, 2012, one of the most unusual and extremely popular festivals opened in the South Korean town of Boryeong, located on the shores of the Yellow Sea. It is called the Boreyong Mud Festival and is held at the city's largest beach, Daecheon.
This event was first organized in 1998 and was an incredible success not only among local residents, but also among foreign tourists. A few years later, Boreyong Mud Festival was listed as one of the 7 major cultural events recommended by the South Korean Ministry of Tourism and Recreation as a great way to have a good time and health benefits. There is no specific date for the festival, but most often it takes place in July.
This year, the Sea Mud Festival, which lasted 10 days, was attended by approximately 2.5-3 million people, the lion's share of which were tourists from various countries of the world. Festival participants were invited to take part in impromptu beach wrestling, mud races, roller coasters and big mud king elections. Traditionally, the entertainment program of the Mud Festival included a competition for the best mud sculpture, a variety of shows and dances. During the festival, a giant tunnel 25 meters long was installed, inside of which there was a healing mud rain, under which everyone could take a shower.
One of the most spectacular programs of the 2012 festival was a five-meter mud waterfall, as well as an exciting marathon with obstacles, which the "athletes" had to overcome on special skis.
The Mud Festival in Korea remains a place where you can not only get a lot of positive emotions, take part in various competitions and games, but also undergo a number of medical procedures. The mud on the coast of Daecheon has long been known for its unique content of healing substances and minerals, contributing to the rapid healing of wounds, preserving the beauty and youthfulness of the skin. In addition, the Boreyong Mud Festival is a great opportunity to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and return to a carefree childhood for a few days.
