Step 1
Topstitch along the bottom. This will simultaneously process the edge and secure what has been folded. In order to perform the operation, you must first bend the bottom edge by 3 cm. Secure the fabric with safety pins. If you are working with easily crumbling fabric, you can cut serrations around the edge. Flip the fabric over to the right side and sew 2 cm from the edge of the fold. You can put a decorative stitch over it.
Step 2
Use a different overcasting method. It is suitable for jerseys and home wear. Stitch the hem with a twin needle. This technique allows you to make two fairly closely spaced lines. First, you should fold the bottom of the garment to the required amount, and then sew along the right side, adjusting the seam width. Then turn the fabric over to the wrong side and trim the hem edge above the straight stitch.
Step 3
Select the following overcasting method when sewing stretch jersey: sew a zigzag stitch. To do this, you need to set the stitch length and stitch width to the middle value and start the stitch along the folded edge. Now, close to the stitching, trim the edge of the material. Then sew the hem by hand with a standard blind stitch or a cross stitch. If your sewing machine has this function, sew a machine blind stitch.
Step 4
Sew the hem with a straight stitch when sewing thin fabrics. To do this, you need to bend 5 mm from the edge to the wrong side and sew along the fold. Then hem the hem using a blind stitch or a cross stitch.
Step 5
Use a bias tape to cut thick, heavy woolen fabrics. Also, this method is suitable for material that crumbles quickly. Use the bi-fold method. Sew a hem and hem with a blind stitch. Be careful not to tighten the thread.
Step 6
Process the bottom with a glue spider web, cutting the teeth along the cut. This method is good for thin fabrics. Take a strip of glue spider web and place it under the hem. Iron it using steam.
