It happens that the zipper in a completely new bag starts to jam or the lock breaks. And the hostess, not finding time to go to the workshop and not daring to change the zipper on her own, throws her bag into the far corner. In fact, making such a repair is not so difficult. And you can even do without a sewing machine.

It is necessary

  • - lightning;
  • - a bag;
  • - needle;
  • - threads.

Instructions

Step 1

If you need to sew a zipper into a bag to replace a broken one, first rip out the old one, remembering how it was located. Measure it and buy the same length, matching color and with a convenient lock. Better not to choose a zipper with metal prongs - they break more often. You need an easy-to-open, strong and durable fastener, because the bag has to be used a lot every day.

Step 2

If you have a leather or substitute bag, you will need a leather needle. Sets of these needles are available at sewing supply stores. Also buy a spool of sturdy but not thick thread that matches the color of your bag.

Step 3

Tie the zipper to the bag with simple large stitches where the previous one was, it is better to take a contrasting color of the thread, so that later it can be easily pulled out. If you are left-handed, replacing the zipper is your chance to position it so that it is convenient to open it - from right to left.

Step 4

Now sew the clasp on to the finishing one. Make a knot at one end of the thread and start sewing from the inside out so that the knot is not visible.

Step 5

You can use a stitch like this: sew one simple stitch along the front, for the second, pass the needle and thread from the wrong side, then in the opposite direction from the front and again from the wrong side, the third stitch is again simple, etc. Try to keep the stitches small, neat, and uniform in length.

Step 6

At the end, secure the thread from the wrong side and start sewing on the other side of the zipper. After that, the thread with which you attached the clasp at the beginning can be pulled out.

Step 7

If the bag is made of fabric, then it will be even easier to sew the zipper - use a regular needle. Sew on the zipper so that the zipper tape is inside the bag when closed.
