Sewing a fashionable, cozy and warm sleeveless cardigan will be within the power of even those who do not know how to handle a sewing machine. If you choose the right dense fabric, the cuts of which do not crumble, then you can do with just scissors.
To make a cardigan, you will need dense knitwear, jersey, viscose, artificial suede or thin leather, that is, materials that do not crumble on sections, 1, 4 m long. In addition, you will need:
- tape measure;
- tailor's chalk;
- oblique inlay;
- sewing machine;
- threads to match the fabric.
How to cut a cardigan
There is no need to build a paper pattern; you can do this directly on the fabric. Pre-cut all the edges, do it very carefully so that the cuts are as even as possible. You will need to measure only one measure - the width of the back, applying a measuring tape to the back along the protruding points of the shoulder blades and from one armpit to the other. Usually this value is 35-40 cm.
Fold the fabric right side in along the straight thread. From the top edge on the fold side, set aside 25-26 cm for the collar. Make a mark here.
From this point, set aside half of the back measurement to the right and mark. From it, set aside the depth of the armhole, for a cardigan, it can be deeper so that you can freely put it on a turtleneck or sweater. This measurement equals approximately 25 cm. Divide this segment in half and set aside 6 cm to the sides of the resulting point. Connect these marks with a smooth line to form an oval.
Cut the hole exactly along this line. The collar and bottom of the cardigan can be left rectangular or cut with a smooth line and cut along the contour.
How to sew a cardigan
In principle, you can leave the product as it is and not process the slices. This will give the image a special carelessness. However, the thing will look more neat if you sheathe all the cuts with an oblique inlay.
The color of the inlay can be the same as the fabric or in a contrasting color
Work the armholes first. Fold the tape in half and insert the cut into it, so that the seam falls on the lower part of the armhole. Pin with tailor's pins and sew along the edge with a sewing machine. Work the rest of the edges of the cardigan in the same way.
Also, all slices can be processed on an overlock.
How to wear a cardigan
This item can be worn over a blouse, turtleneck, sweater or casual dress. It is also very beautiful when the cardigan is paired with jeans, skinny pants or leggings.
Put on your cardigan. Fold in the folds of the collar and tie the belt. You can use a wide leather belt or several narrow belts, or sew a soft belt out of the same fabric from which the cardigan was made.
