How to make a balloon

It is necessary

  • Roll of tissue paper
  • If there is no roll, you can pre-glue the base for each segment from several sheets
  • Whatman sheet
  • A sheet of cardboard 210 cm long and a little more than 50 cm wide
  • PVA glue
  • Scissors
  • To launch the ball
  • An old metal bucket without a bottom or a piece of tin pipe with a diameter of about 15 cm

Instructions

Step 1

Transfer the life-size drawing to a piece of cardboard. Cut out the resulting template.

Step 2

Lay out the prepared tissue paper and trace around the template. Cut out the workpiece by adding 0.5 cm to the gluing on the sides on each side. There should be 8 such blanks.

Step 3

Glue the blanks in pairs. This makes 4 fragments, turn each fragment so that the seam of the gluing is inside, and the fragments themselves are curved in the shape of a boat.

Step 4

Glue the pieces in pairs so that the seams are inside. Now you have two hemispheres, glue them so that the gluing seam is inside. On the other hand, the seam is overlapped.

Step 5

A hole may remain at the top of the connection between the segments. Cover it with a suitable size tissue paper circle ("hat"). If irregularities have formed, they must be cut with scissors before gluing. Leave the neck for filling the ball with hot air at the bottom of the ball.

Step 6

Reinforce the neckline by gluing on the inside and outside of a Whatman ring about 10 cm high. Dry the structure. Try filling the balloon with air using a jet from a hair dryer or vacuum cleaner.

Step 7

If you find small holes or loose joints in the ball, cover them with small pieces of tissue paper. Let the ball dry completely and the ball is ready to launch.
