When starting to draw a sea crab, it is important to remember that, despite their diversity, differences in color and size, all crabs have the same body structure. Therefore, you first need to make a sketch, following simple rules, and only then add some individual features.

It is necessary

  • - a blank white sheet of paper
  • - pencil
  • - brush
  • - paints for painting

Instructions

Step 1

Start drawing the crab from the body, which is covered with a strong shell that has the shape of an almost even circle. Mark with the help of light strokes the places where it will be necessary to subsequently highlight the bulge of the back. Draw the thorns on the sides of the carapace with a pencil.

Step 2

When the sketch of the crab's body is ready, sketch out the legs for the animal. Please note that the back four pairs can be of different thicknesses and sizes, depending on the type of individual. In a crab, each limb is divided into four segments. Draw thorns at the ends of the fourth, third and second pairs of legs. The hind legs should end with a blade-joint, which in its appearance resembles a racket. The walking legs of some crabs are covered with fine hairs.

Step 3

Draw pincers on the forelegs. They look like wire cutters, in which the grips differ in size: one is smaller and the other is larger. In most arthropods, the left claw is much smaller than the right one.

Step 4

After the crab has acquired a shell and legs, draw a head for it, which, like the whole body, is divided into segments. On the head, depict eyes that look like periscopes raised up, and two pairs of small antennae.

Step 5

Start coloring your drawing. Do not forget that the color of claws, limbs and shells is more dependent on the environment in which the individual lives. For example, when drawing a crab living in algae, you need to use olive and greenish shades, and a coral reef dweller needs to make a variegated shell and add some kind of pattern on it.

Step 6

Highlight the bulge on the back with color. Draw thorns on the claws and shell of the crab. Reflect in the drawing with a brush that the claws of the animal cover many small protrusions, and there are hairs on the hind pairs of limbs. The smooth and hard material that covers the crab's claws is very different from the chitin found on the shell, so use different shades to show these features.
