Pike perch is a predatory fish, it is found in lakes and rivers of the basins of the Baltic, Caspian, Black, Azov, Aral seas. He is the largest representative of the perch squad. Pike perch can weigh up to 20 kg, but usually large fish weigh 8-10 kg.
Arriving on a fishing trip in an unfamiliar place, try to ask the locals about a better place to catch pike perch. Usually it is caught on the shallows, in the habitats of bleak, at the exits from holes and underwater edges. Pike perch bites well on spinning and swaying spoons all over open water. In the warm period, this fish stays closer to the bottom, so it is easier to catch it with a foam rubber bait.
Spoons are more suitable when it is time for zander to hunt in school. This period begins in mid-July, when the fish lives at a shallow depth. During open water, it is better to fish with a spinning rod. Pike perch swims to the surface of the water two to three times a day to the habitat of the bleak, which it feeds on. When the food disappears, the fish swims back to the bottom. The depth to which the spinners should go is 0.5-1 meter.
The shore is a good place to fish for walleye. It is advisable to select an area with a sharp difference in depth. In such a place, the current becomes slower, and a reverse stream may form near the coast. Do not catch pike perch in a sandy area without vegetation, it is not found there, because there is no food or shelter from predators.
Zander usually takes a specific route. He slowly swims almost along the very bottom at a distance of 10-15 meters from the water's edge. At the end of its path, the fish again returns to the beginning of the route. Use a variety of twisters, spinners and foam fish for bait. Throw a spinning rod across the river at a distance of 20-25 meters.
Try to avoid places where there are a lot of hooks: building plates, a pile of stones, a bunch of branches, driftwood, etc. There is fish in such an area, only there is a great risk that you will lose bait. You can try zander in a similar location, just choose jig heads that are ball-shaped and don't get stuck in the debris as much.
In summer, pike perch can be caught around the clock, but during the day it changes its location several times. Two to three hours before sunrise, the fish is found on shallow edges. On a deeper edge, the fish swims in four to five hours, at six to nine o'clock, the pike perch again looks for another place. The most successful time is at 11 and 15 o'clock in the afternoon, and at 18-19 o'clock in the evening, on the same sidelines where he fed in the morning.
