A "shell" is a pattern of a base loop and a group of double crochets. They bloom like a fan, forming a beautiful canvas or finishing of the finished product. At the same time, the rows fill up quickly, and the uniformity of elements does not require a painstaking study of intricate schemes. In knitting tutorials, you can find many variations of the "shell". To cope with it, it is enough to master the basic principles of work.

Instructions
Step 1
Run a chain of air loops, adjusting its length according to the pattern of the future product. Pulling out the pivot loop, start knitting the "shell".
Step 2
Make one yarn over by counting three more bows from the pivot loop. Pull the draped loop into the fourth link in the air chain (this is the main loop).
Step 3
Grab the working thread and pull it towards you through the loop. There should already be three loops on the hook.
Step 4
Grab the thread again and pull it out first through the first pair of loops (lying on the hook shaft), then through the second. There will be only one loop, which in knitting manuals is called "leading".
Step 5
Insert the hook into the main loop and make several identical posts one after another. There can be from three to nine (and even more) - it all depends on the main pattern and the thickness of the working thread. A classic "shell" is a group of five to seven single crochet.
Step 6
Skip the next three free loops after the first "shell" and insert the hook into the fourth bow. Make one simple single crochet: the working thread is pulled through two loops - the leading one and knitted from a chain link. This element of the pattern is called "sheaf".
Step 7
Count three more loops, then yarn over and insert the hook into the fourth bow. This is the basis for the next fan. Next, you need to knit "shells" according to the pattern to the end of the row.
Step 8
Move to the second row: three chain stitches, then turn the work over.
Step 9
Knit three double crochets and insert the crochet hook into the center of the nearest shell. This is followed by a "sheaf", yarn, the main loop from the gap between the two "fans" of the lower row. Knit the next element of the pattern and thus continue the row to the end.
