The individual techniques, such as pastels and watercolors, charcoal and crayons, work well together and complement each other. Many artists have found their own style, experimenting with mixed media and combining the sometimes incongruous. They have proven to themselves and others that this is an interesting and promising way of expressing oneself.

Short sections of branches with an interesting texture, a sheet of thick paper, a 6B pencil, oil pastel paints, watercolors, a round brush No. 3
Instructions
Step 1
Draw the outlines. Select those branch fragments that you want to sketch, and lightly outline their outlines with a 6B pencil. Start by sketching a snakeskin-like pattern that is visible on the branch.
Step 2
Work on the branch. The main color of the branch is yellowish-white. Recreate it with pastels by applying strokes of yellow, white and flesh paint in successive layers, then blend them with your finger to get an even, dense, uniform tone. Remember to leave gaps that will be filled with darker paint.
Step 3
Write the line in watercolor. Take brush # 3. In watercolor sepia paint the dark lines of the branch. The edges of the line should go slightly over the pastel areas. When the watercolor is absorbed, the pastel paint will be blurry. In the same way, add small, randomly scattered spots of watercolor on the pastel surface. Let the paint dry.
Step 4
Finish the branch. On closer examination, you can see on the branch long, vertical, slightly curved lines passing over the light areas of the bark. Finish the sketch by drawing these lines on top of the mixed pastel layer with a 6B pencil. Thanks to these lines, the drawing will become much more realistic.
Step 5
Finished sketch. By painting in mixed media not a picture, but a sketch. You have achieved that even in such a small work it is possible to quite clearly convey the shape and pattern of the branches. Successful results are based on careful and direct study of the subject. The combination of pastels and watercolors allows you to recreate the natural look and texture of the bark.
