The guitar is a versatile instrument capable of playing both melodic and harmonic (chord) parts. This property is due to both the richness of techniques suitable for performing solo numbers, and the ability to play several notes at the same time (by the number of strings). Playing a melody on a guitar is the most important type of playing that demonstrates the musician's skill.
Instructions
Step 1
Start with small melodies, one or two lines long. The music text requires deep analysis, and you will not be able to cope with a large volume right away.
Review the melody. Imagine it on the fretboard: with which fingers you will play this or that note, which string and at which fret you will squeeze, how is it more convenient to move to the next fragment. Mark all your thoughts with a pencil above or below the notes.
Step 2
Play the first 2-4 measures of the melody at a very slow pace. If you manage to hit all the notes with the correct fingers and keep the rhythm, then the tempo is chosen correctly. Read aloud for convenience.
From the second play, pay attention to the strokes: overhead or underneath, legato or staccato, grace notes, vibrato, etc. These details significantly complicate the work, but they allow you to perceive the melody not as a set of sounds, but as an emotionally colored thought.
Play the section several times, gradually increasing the tempo to the original. In it, play 3-5 times and move on to the next fragment in 2-4 measures. Work it out in the same way and combine it with the first.
Step 3
In addition to performing, in fact, study the disciplines of the musical-theoretical cycle: solfeggio, elementary music theory, harmony, history. Each era and each style is characterized by one or another attitude towards decorations in performance, methods of sound production, etc. When studying new works, consider all these subtleties in order to accurately recreate the work in the spirit of the composer.
Step 4
Gradually complicate the material. Exercise regularly, at least 30 minutes every day. Begin the analysis of each melody with a visual analysis. If necessary, contact your teacher to clarify difficulties and monitor your progress. When playing on its own, a beginner guitarist can train his hand to an uncomfortable or unnatural position, which leads to a decrease in playing speed and sound quality.
