Instructions

Step 1

Choose a motif for embroidery. You can find it on the Internet or buy a ready-made kit, which includes a canvas, threads, a diagram and a needle. If you want to do everything yourself, pick up the threads of the floss of the necessary shades, buy a piece of canvas.

Step 2

Finish the edges of the canvas. For embroidering pictures, you can use PVA glue, in the case of a pillow, it is better to neatly overcast the canvas cut by hand or on a sewing machine with a zigzag stitch. Choose a canvas with a large weave, no less than Aida 14.

Step 3

Step back a sufficient number of crosses from the edge of the canvas, for example, 10 on each side, and start working. If the material is starchy, you can embroider without special devices, but if not, use a hoop, they will not allow the canvas to deform. Embroider with floss in 4-6 additions. Remember that when working on pillows, the pattern should be tight. Make sure that the closing stitch of each cross is made strictly in one direction, so the pattern will be even, smooth.

Step 4

Wash your embroidered work in warm soapy water, spread dry on a towel. Iron.

Step 5

Choose a fabric for your pillowcase. It should be dense enough and not transparent. Make a square (rectangle) pattern the same size as the finished embroidery. Sew three sides of the pillow, make sure that the line runs strictly along the border of the pattern on the embroidery. Sew the zipper on the fourth side. If the fabric of the pillow shows through the embroidered design, make the lining of a light-colored cotton material. Place a pillowcase over your pillow.

Step 6

You can sew pieces of fabric with a width of three centimeters or more to each side of the embroidery. Cut out the back of the pillowcase taking into account the increased size of the front side. Sew a decorative cord along the side seam, sew brushes on the corners. You can buy them at handicraft stores.
