Since ancient times, the sword has been a protector and loyal friend to a real man. And even in the current time of modern technology, for many, it is the image of a brave warrior that remains attractive. However, before attaching a weapon to your belt, it would be good to learn how to properly carry a sword.
It is necessary
- - scabbard;
- - harness;
- - permission to carry edged weapons.
Instructions
Step 1
To begin with, make sure that you have a permit to carry edged weapons. Without this, it is better not to meddle with a sword into the street, unless you have a wooden one. Even if you made the sword yourself and they are unlikely to be able to cut the fallen hair, you should take care of the resolution, otherwise you will not end up in problems later. For such a permit, contact the nearest ROVD.
Step 2
After you have received permission, you need to get the scabbard. You can buy them in an antique store or in a store that sells melee weapons, or you can sew them yourself - on the forums of reenactors, knowledgeable people share their experience in making this accessory.
Step 3
If you decide to make the scabbard yourself, then you will need a board 8 mm thick and two to two and a half times longer than the sword itself, a plane, glue, leather, a cutter and an awl with thread. Ash was the favorite type of wood for making scabbards among European warriors in the Middle Ages. First you need to cut out the details of the scabbard from wood, then glue them and cover them with leather. Further - a matter of the imagination of a noble knight. You can cover the scabbard with velvet, decorate with embossing, embroidery, stones.
Step 4
Now you can move on to learning how to carry the sword. Medieval knights did not attach the scabbard directly to the belt. Often, the sword was carried in a sling over the shoulder in such a way that the handle was raised to the chest. Later it was worn on a harness attached to a belt, while the sword dangled freely on the hips. And at the end of the 14th century, a new fashion for wearing a sword came. Now the weapon hung strictly vertically on the left side, attached to the belt with a pair of small straps. In the fifteenth century, the harness consisted of several straps - several of them were attached under the very mouth of the scabbard, and the rest hung almost in the middle. The sword itself was at an angle of 45 degrees.
Step 5
It doesn't matter what century fashion you decide to wear a sword, the main condition is to wear it with pride.
