Then reeds, birch bark, threads, newspapers, leather and much more were used for weaving. Especially beautiful woven products are made from leather. Consider how flat leather weaving is performed. This weaving allows you to connect thin leather cords into a durable product and make braids. Flat weaving of leather is used if you need to make, for example, a belt, belt loops, a strap for a purse, jewelry and other accessories.

It is necessary

  • - unnecessary leather products: boots, bags, gloves or leftover leather;
  • - scissors;
  • - marking compass;
  • - punches;
  • - glue;
  • - awl.

Instructions

Step 1

Start braiding. Make a pigtail - cord. Take a strip of soft elastic leather 0.5 cm wide. Make slits on it 0.5 cm long and 0.5 cm apart from each other. Then start weaving with the second strip, so that the end of the strap is pulled into the slit, starting from the opposite end. Each time, the strip must be completely removed and the strap must be tightened properly.

Step 2

If you weave from three strips, you get the most ordinary pigtail.

You can also use 4 strips. Take a leather strip and cut it, but without cutting to the end of 2-3 cm. To make it easier to work, nail the thin straps to the table or fix in the holder. For this, you can use, for example, large paper clips or paper clips.

Step 3

For convenience, the strips can be numbered. Start weaving like this: the second strip overlaps on the third, the fourth on the second, the first under the third. Re-number the stripes, the former first should become the second. Weave them again using the same pattern. And so on until the very end.

Step 4

Weaving can also be made from five strips. The first and fifth stripes will always go towards each other and go out to the opposite edge, and the second and fourth stripes will cross over the third. In doing so, remember that the third strip will be the main one.

Step 5

Weave order:

1st will go over 2nd and under 3rd; The 5th goes over the 4th and under the 3rd;

The 2nd and 4th stripes will go towards each other over the 3rd;

The 1st will go over the 2nd and under the 3rd, and the 5th will go over the 4th, but under the 3rd and 1st;

The 2nd and 4th go to meet each other over the 3rd.

Then repeat the weaving.

If you are weaving jewelry, it makes sense to take strips of leather of different colors, so you will not get tangled when weaving and create an original product.
