What is necessary

To make a stool, special carpentry skills are not required, and the set of tools can be minimal: a hacksaw with fine teeth (a jigsaw is more convenient), a screwdriver, sandpaper and a brush for varnishing. A lot of material is also not required. You can make a stool traditionally from wood, or screw the pre-purchased metal legs to the plastic seat.

How to choose material

Both deciduous and coniferous species are suitable for work. The main thing is that the material is well dried. There should be no cracks, knots, holes, old screws, or nails on the bars and boards (if the material has already been used). Especially carefully you need to inspect the legs for the legs, because they will have the main load.

The size of the future product depends on the room in which it will stand and the dimensions of the rider. The standard stool height is 450 mm, and the seat size is 350x350 mm.

Work

For future legs, you need to prepare four bars 430 mm long. Naturally, all legs must have the same dimensions - 40x40 mm in cross section.

For the seat, you need a board with a thickness of 20-25 mm. Since it is very difficult to find a solid board of a suitable size, it is possible to make a seat from two boards 145 mm wide and 300 mm long.

In order for the future furniture not to fall apart, it is necessary to make 4 connecting plates 100x270 mm in size. They can be made from plywood. At a distance of 30 mm from the edge of the plate, it is necessary to make 2 grooves 12x50 mm in size. The grooves are made in the width (across) the plates - two on each. Then, along the prepared grooves, the plates are connected into a box. As a result, corners are obtained outside the box - the place for attaching future legs.

It would be nice to smooth out the details in order to make it more comfortable to use and give a neater look to the product. The workpieces are chamfered and sanded with sandpaper - first coarse, then fine.

Assembly

The legs and seat are attached to the frame with screws through pre-drilled pilot holes. For reliability, the junction can be coated with glue.

To protect the product from the harmful effects of the external environment, it must be covered with stain and varnish. After the first coat of varnish is dry, you can apply a second one.

If you wish, you can cover the seat with a fabric, make it soft by placing cotton wool, for example, or foam rubber under the fabric.

To give the effect of antiquity and light roughness, you can paint the stool. After it dries, sand the paint in places with sandpaper and varnish the stool. This type of decoupage is popular and, judging by the store price tags, increases the cost of the product by about two times.
