It is necessary

  • - stainless steel or old blade;
  • - titanium;
  • - bronze washer;
  • - ball;
  • - vice;
  • - knife;
  • - screwdriver.

Instructions

Step 1

First, decide on the design. For the first experience, it is better to choose a linear lock. After all, it contains a minimum number of parts, which means it will be more reliable and less difficult to manufacture.

Step 2

Draw your future sketch on cardboard. After that, cut it out, separately the handle and the blade of the knife. Make a hole and secure the parts with a bolt and nut. This will test how your future knife will open and close. In the cardboard version, correct the shape of the heel of the blade, select the most accurate place for attaching the locking pin so that nothing clings when folded. In the closed position, precisely determine the place where the retainer will be located - a special ball that will prevent the knife from opening spontaneously.

Step 3

Selection of materials. Use stainless steel, it is not afraid of moisture, and your future knife will serve you for more than one mushroom season. Give the blade the shape you want. Use good quality old knife blades. Use titanium for dies. It is strong enough, lightweight and has spring properties.

Step 4

In the bottom die, drill three holes with a diameter of 2.5 mm. Connect them and insert a hacksaw blade into it. Gently bring it forward, almost to the very hole under the axle. Then saw through the line of the stopper. Please note that there should be a small margin, which you will then remove when setting up the lock.

Step 5

Cut the second plate to the same size. Make a notch in it for the opening hole of the knife. Drill all holes with a bag, start drilling from the holes for the axle.

Step 6

Then pick up the two bronze washers for the bearing on the knife folding pivot. Insert the axle, locking pin, blade, washer into the lower die. Fold down the future knife. Perform operations very carefully.

Step 7

Mark the place for the ball on the retaining spring, drill a hole 0.1 mm smaller than the ball. Using a vise, place the ball itself there so that it protrudes 0.5 mm. Fold down the knife several times. Drill out the hole where the ball mark remains.

Step 8

Assemble the knife while without the top die and fit the lock. Assemble the knife completely.
