Designing a coat pattern is usually a challenge, even for experienced dressmakers. In part, perhaps, this is why such simple and convenient varieties of this wardrobe item as capes and ponchos were reinvented (or returned to active use). Their design is elementary, and cutting is very simple, because it does not require an exact fit of the product to the figure. For sewing capes and ponchos, classic coat fabrics are used, but one more requirement is imposed on them: drape.
It is necessary
- - tailor's chalk or thin remnant;
- - thick double-sided woolen fabric (the length of the cut is equal to the width of the fabric (150x150 cm / 140x140 cm);
- - a long ruler or measuring tape.
Instructions
Step 1
Fold the fabric in half along the lobular line. Mark a center point on the fold of the fabric. Measure the distance from this point to the cut of the fabric (or simply divide the length of the fabric in half) - this value is the radius of the circle, which forms the basis of the design of this cape coat.
Step 2
Using a long ruler or measuring tape, set aside the value of the radius from the center point in all directions of the folded canvas and mark several auxiliary points along which it will be easy for you to build a semicircle. Connect these points with smooth lines in a semicircle.
Step 3
Cut the fabric in a semicircular line and lay it in one layer. Draw a straight line with a thin remnant along the common thread (along the former fold). Draw another line perpendicular to it through the center of this line.
Step 4
In the lower half of the circle, draw two segments 30 cm long: from the middle of the horizontal line, set aside 20 cm on both sides and draw the perpendiculars down. These segments are nothing more than the armholes of the sleeves.
Step 5
The distance between the sleeves in this case turns out to be 40 cm, but if you wear large-sized clothes or want to increase the freedom of fitting things, then you can bring this value to 50 cm or more.
Step 6
Cut out the kimono sleeves in the form of two rectangles 60 cm wide (plus 1.5 cm allowances on both sides) and about 55 cm long (measure the distance from the middle of your back to the wrist, stretching your arm to the side, and subtract half the distance between the armholes) … If you want to make sleeves with cuffs, add more cuffs. The bottom of the sleeves can be narrowed slightly.
Step 7
The same cape can be sewn on the basis of a square. In this case, everything is even simpler: you do not need to draw a circle on the fabric.
