Step 1
To choose the most suitable paints for glass, you need to decide which surfaces you want to paint. There are two types of paints. The first ones turn out to be voluminous, it is better to use them when you are making a picture, or if the painted surface will not be exposed to serious influences. These are solvent-based paints. Once dry, these paints can be washed.
The second type of paints is intended for firing, such paints are diluted with water. They are ideal for dishes as even a dishwasher cannot wash them off.
Step 2
Before you start painting glass, its surface is degreased with alcohol or detergent. After degreasing, do not even touch the glass with your hands, as the cleaner the glass, the better the paint adheres to it.
Step 3
The preliminary sketch is best done on paper and painted by hand or on a computer. So you can immediately evaluate the composition and the selected colors. Before drawing, the outline can be drawn on the other side of the glass surface. You can print it out and put it under the glass if it's flat. But when bottles or other objects with a hard-to-reach back are being painted, you will have to draw right away.
Step 4
Contours are usually applied first. Then, when they are dry, they are filled with basic layers of paint. The surface to be painted should, if possible, be horizontal. Otherwise, the paint may run slightly.
Step 5
All air bubbles must be immediately removed with a needle, otherwise they will dry out and leave holes. A cotton swab with solvent will help clean up errors in the drawing itself.
Step 6
When the painting on glass is finished and the drawing is dry, you can cover it with acrylic varnish intended for glass. It usually takes about 2 days for the paints to dry.
