The Barbie doll is the most popular toy for girls around the world. While playing, the girls imagine themselves in the place of their mother, wife and mistress. Furniture, even handmade, makes playing with dolls more meaningful and interesting.
Corrugated cardboard bed
To make a bed for a Barbie doll, you will need: corrugated cardboard, plain paper for templates, scissors, stationery glue, wire, scissors, tape, Moment glue or other strong glue, cloth for gluing the bed.
First, make templates out of paper: the headboards and the bed. The backs can be in the shape of a semicircle. To do this, cut a circle out of paper and cut it in half. Next, make a template for the place where the doll will sleep. It should be a rectangle. If you are making a narrow single bed, its dimensions can be as follows: width 14 cm, length 34 cm. The height of the low headboard is 8 cm, and the height of the high one is 10 cm. The width of the headboards should be equal to the width of the bed. In this case, it is 14 cm. In principle, the size can be any.
Attach the bed parts to the corrugated cardboard and cut out. The bed can consist of 7 rectangles, and the number of backs can be 6. The more details you cut, the stronger the bed will be. Glue the parts two at a time. It is advisable to use a strong Moment glue.
Glue 4 layers of the bed and leave to dry for a couple of hours. At this time, cut the wire: 4 pieces of 50 cm. Place 4 wires on the glued cardboard: there should be a distance of about 2 cm between them. To prevent the wire from moving, fix it with tape. Pour the glue over the wire board and place the remaining cardboard on top. In order for the rectangles to stick together firmly, place them under the press.
While the bed is drying, glue the headboards together. One backrest should come from three blanks. Place them under the press too. When the parts are dry, attach the backs to the wire and mark the points of contact. Next, pierce these points with an awl or nail. Thread the wire through the holes. Liberally grease the joints of the bed and back with glue. From the back of the back, tie the wire together, and cut off the rest. Glue another layer of cardboard to the backs so that the wire is not visible. The bed is ready! You can glue it over with colored paper, paint or cover it with fabric.
Foam or Styrofoam bed
To make a bed from materials such as foam or polystyrene, you will also need to cut out the bed and headboards. Make any sizes. Just keep in mind that the length of the bed must be at least 1 cm longer than the length of the doll. Use wire to hold the back and bed together. You can easily poke it through the material as it is soft.
In order not to glue several cuts of foam, take a thick piece at once. The advantage of foam and foam is that they are very lightweight materials. Therefore, the bed will be practically weightless. Disadvantage of Styrofoam: After trimming, it can start to crumble. You will need to cover the bed with additional fabric.
Regardless of what material the bed is made of, it is easy to come up with original decorations for it. For example, you can glue flowers on the headboard. Cut out regular daisies and center them. Paper jewelry will stick to regular office glue. If you have old magazines, cut out beautiful applications from them on any topic and glue them to the headboards from the outside. Along the edge of the backs, you can put a beautiful braid: put it on the glue.
