Step 1
If you decide to sew a butterfly costume for a child yourself, then consider two key circumstances. Firstly, the costume must be durable, because children love to run and can damage it even before the performance. Secondly, the suit should be comfortable, lightweight, not hindering movement.
Step 2
There are many options for bringing your creative idea to life. The easiest option is to take a ready-made elegant dress and attach butterfly wings to it. This will save you a lot of time. only part of the costume will have to be done.

Making wings is not difficult. First, decide on the size. Should the wings be no more? from the growth of the child. The configuration and shape of the wings depends only on your imagination. You can make them elongate vertically, or you can increase their size in width. But the latter option can create inconvenience when moving (the child will cling to the door frames with his wings).

If you calculated that you need a piece of material 60 * 60cm to sew the wings, then feel free to buy twice as much. After all, the wings consist of two identical parts, one of which is in direct contact with the child's back, and the other is on the opposite side.

Then select the fabric. If you don't like any of the suggested colors, buy a solid piece, and then decorate it with various patterns using special fabric dyes.

To make a pattern, you will need a Whatman paper. Draw one wing on it. Cut it out. Place on fabric. Secure with sewing pins. Circle the pattern. Cut a wing out of the fabric as shown in dotted lines in Figure 1. Fold the fabric along the fold. Circle the wing. Cut the wings out completely. This method allows you not only to cut two absolutely symmetrical wings, but also significantly save time
Step 7
Place the cut wings on the remaining fabric. Secure with sewing pins and circle. Cut out the second wings.
Step 8
Buy tough, sturdy metal wire. Place it on the paper wing and fold it to match the relief of the pattern.
Step 9
Lay one pair of wings face down, place a wire frame on top of them, and spread the second pair of wings on top. Fold the edges of the fabric as shown in figure 2. Sew both pairs of wings together so that the seam goes close to the frame inside. For the main seam, choose decorative threads, make the stitches the same length so that the product looks neat
Step 10
Attach the wings to the child. In the shoulder area, mark where the straps will be.
Step 11
Make the straps from the elastic band. Sew them to the wings at the locations you marked earlier.
