A fairly common picture in the house of thrifty housewives: things that are out of fashion or have the wrong size are stored in the closet and take up useful space. For example, a wide and long old drape coat hangs on a hanger - and there is no one to wear it, and it is a pity to throw it away. Try to shorten and alter the product according to the figure, provide it with additional details. If you approach work with all diligence, you can give unwanted clothes a new life.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare your old coat for rework. You must understand that beautiful clothes will only come from decent quality linens. Assess the condition of the drape. If there are no marks, scuffs or indelible stains on the front working sides of the fabric, get to work.

Step 2

Clean the product with a dry, if necessary with a damp brush. Then dry and gently part all the outside and inside seams of the old garment. It is recommended to do this with a very sharp razor blade (for convenience, one end can drown it in a wine cork) or nail scissors. Set aside the lining.

Step 3

Steam and dry all of the ripped cut pieces, then lay them out on a flat, horizontal surface. Now the most crucial moment is to create a new pattern.

Step 4

To begin with, specify the required length of the future updated coat and make a sharp remnant of an even line of the lower cut along the seamy side of the canvas. Mark with a dotted line the standard allowances for the connecting seams (their width is 1.5 cm).

Step 5

Mark the longitudinal lines of the side seams for the back and the folds of the woolen coat. They must run strictly symmetrically on the right and left sides of the product! Do not forget about the seam allowances and the freedom of fit.

Step 6

To find out how deep the details are sewn, try sweeping the sides of the old lining first and putting the sample on warm clothes (the same one with which you are going to wear the altered coat).

Step 7

Adjust the new lines of the armholes to match perfectly with the edges of the sleeves of the garment. Then open the patch pockets, tab, and (if present) other outside parts of the old product. When resized, they may be out of place and the item will look unprofessional.

Step 8

Make even cuts of the parts of the coat, and do not forget about the allowances! The seam lines should be secured with pins or a contrasting auxiliary thread, manually passing the seam "forward needle". Measure the bent coat again, then proceed to machine processing.

Step 9

Choose the right sewing machine needles and see how they work on a piece of drape. If all the tools are correctly selected and the device is in good working order, then this dense fabric will not cause any particular difficulties when sewing.

Step 10

Stitch the bottom hem of the coat and side seams. Slices of the allowances are processed on an overlock, and then iron them. The main work on altering the old coat has been done.

Step 11

You just need to re-attach the pockets and other overhead details. The lining is sutured according to the pattern and sewn to the wrong side with a blind seam. Try replacing the buttons - the original fittings can radically transform the appearance of the product, give it a special flavor.
