During your regular general cleaning, you take out your old jacket. And again, the hand does not rise to throw away your favorite thing, although you can no longer wear it either. After all, the model is outdated, the cuffs on the sleeves are frayed, the zipper is broken, or the size simply does not fit. However, with a little work, you can turn your favorite jacket into an interesting and new model.

It is necessary

  • - sewing machine;
  • - fabric or fur to replace some parts;
  • - new zipper or buttons;
  • - decorative ornaments (sequins, ribbons, rhinestones).

Instructions

Step 1

Take a close look at your old jacket. Find out the condition of those parts that are subject to the most wear: cuffs, zippers, collar, lapels. Check the zipper. Does it fasten well, are the teeth broken, do they diverge under load? Examine the buttons: how many of them should there be, is everything in place, are there any spare ones? Pay attention to the cuffs and sleeves. They are especially dry on leather jackets.

Step 2

Try on an old jacket. Make sure the size is right for you. If the thing is too small or, on the contrary, has become large, estimate how much it needs to be increased (decreased). When wearing a jacket, make sure that the lining does not show up on the sleeves and at the bottom.

Step 3

Renew the cuffs. The simplest thing you can do is simply cut off and discard the worn out parts, after rebuffing the lining. Find the right fabric, considering that the collar will need to be replaced as well. Tailor and sew on cuffs with new fabric or fur. If the sleeves of the jacket are one-piece, then you can either cut off the frayed parts, or treat the edges with fur or pile fabric.

Step 4

Tidy up your collar. If you decide to put new cuffs on your jacket, the easiest way is to cut a collar from the same fabric. To do this, rip off the old collar and cut and sew a new part according to its pattern. The cuffs and collar tied with an English elastic band look good on jackets.

Step 5

Replace your jacket with a new zipper. Carefully, being careful not to cut the fabric, rip off the old one and replace it with a new one. If the slider (dog) is lost on the old zipper, then purchase or pick up and replace only the dog. In jackets, where there are buttons instead of a zipper, and the sides are badly worn, there is an option to carefully cut the fabric and sew in a new zipper.

Step 6

Update the lining. If it is torn, stretched, or inadequate, replace it. Rip off the old lining carefully. If it is not deformed, rip it apart. Purchase new backing material. You can choose a fabric with insulation (quilted synthetic winterizer) or use fleece or fur as a lining. Lay out the pieces of the old lining on the new material, cut out and sew on the machine. Assemble the padded jacket. Try on and check if the lining is too big. Try not to wrinkle the lining fabric, but also not be overly stretched.

Step 7

Add a touch of flavor to your new jacket. You can use embroidery, original buttons, ribbons, brooches, sequins or rhinestones for this.
