Nowadays, no one wears top hat, so finding them on a free sale is quite problematic. However, sometimes such a hat is needed for a fancy dress. You can make it at home.
It is necessary
- - thick cardboard;
- - double sided tape;
- - PVA glue;
- - the cloth;
- - threads;
- - a needle;
- - scissors;
- - ruler;
- - pencil;
- - tailor's centimeter;
- -compass;
- - stationery knife;
- - stapler;
- - satin ribbon.
Instructions
Step 1
Measure the circumference of the head for which you are going to make the hat using a tailor's tape measure. Draw a rectangle on a large piece of cardboard. Its width is equal to the value you just measured (head circumference) plus five centimeters, the height is what you need, plus five centimeters at the top and bottom.
Step 2
Cut out a rectangle. Draw the five centimeters sections that you added to the height into strips of three centimeters (in the form of a fringe) and cut them, in the future they will help you fasten the bottom and brim of the hat. Fold the rectangle into a cylinder and glue its edges using the five centimeters that you added in width.
Step 3
Draw a circle the same diameter as the resulting cylinder, and then a larger circle from the same center. The difference between the radii of these circles is equal to the width of the brim of the hat. Carefully cut out the circles - first the large one along the outer line, then the inner one. You will receive the bottom and brim of the hat.
Step 4
Take the cylinder glued from cardboard and fold the "fringe" you cut out: at the top of the cylinder (where the bottom of the hat will be) - inward, and at the bottom - outward. Glue the bottom and brim of the hat, with the "fringe" on the bottom in both cases.
Step 5
Take a fabric, preferably one that stretches well in any direction, and wrap it over the blank. Start with the fields. To prevent the fabric from puckering or gathering in folds, attach it to the cardboard with glue before stitching it in the right places. But make sure that there is not too much glue and there are no streaks on the fabric. Attach the fabric on the brim with an overlap on the cylindrical part of the hat, so that later there are no gaps at the junction.
Step 6
Paint the inside of the hat with paint to match the fabric. Decorate the junction of the brim and the cylindrical part with a satin ribbon.
