Before you start cutting a new skirt or altering an old one, you need to think about how the hem will be processed. Indeed, the entire type of the finished product depends on the neatness of the finish.

Instructions

Step 1

Blind seam the bottom of the skirt. To do this, make a fold at the level where it is necessary, iron the fabric. If necessary, stitch with a basting stitch along the fold line. Choose threads that match the color of the skirt fabric as much as possible. Sew with thread in one fold from the wrong side. Fold in 0.5 cm of the hem inward so that the cut of fabric is inside between the front of the skirt and the hem. Insert the thread into the fabric, grab 1-2 threads of the fabric of the front of the skirt without pulling out the needles, grab several threads of the fabric that you are hemming. Gently draw out the thread and needle, pull up. Once again grab the thread-two of the front of the skirt, several threads of the hem. So repeat in a circle. Do not over-tighten the thread so that the hem of the skirt does not "gather". Iron the hem when finished.

Step 2

Use lace if the style of the skirt allows this. Sew the hemline with a zigzag stitch and remove excess threads. Fold 1-1.5 cm of hem inward, iron. Place the lace on the wrong side so that it "peeks out" from under the fold, sew with a basting stitch. Try to keep the laces the same across the entire hem. Place a stitch on the sewing machine, backing 1-2 mm from the edge of the fold of the main fabric of the skirt. Remove the basting seam.

Step 3

Sew a bias tape to the hem, you can buy it at the store. This option is especially good if you need to process the edges of the sun skirt. The bias tape must first be stitched from the wrong side of the skirt, then carefully swept to the front side, and a line must be sewn on a sewing machine. For children's skirts, you can choose a trim that is contrasting in color to the main fabric of the skirt. The bottom of such a skirt can be processed with a small zigzag stitch on a typewriter, having previously made a small hem on the wrong side.
