Iron in ores, as well as in liquids, for example, in water, is determined using the titrimetric method. This method is based on the separation of iron from insoluble hydroxide and the determination of iron in the presence of sulflsalizicylic acid.

- Titrimetric iron determination kit (can be ordered online or purchased from a specialized store).
- Distilled water.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare a working solution of Trilon B (0.01 mol / dm3) and 20% sulfacylic acid. Place them in storage containers.
Step 2
Prepare samples for analysis: put it in a glass, add 20 cm3 of aqueous ammonia and boil until you get a precipitate. Collect the filter cake and rinse it several times with hot distilled water. Then dissolve it in 10 cm3 of hydrochloric acid solution with a mass fraction of 5% and pour into a conical flask.
Step 3
Add 1-2 cm3 of 10% aqueous ammonia solution to the sample solution (until the pH level reaches two). Then add 1 cm3 of sulfosalicolic acid solution. The resulting mixture will turn deep red (wine). Heat it to 70-80 ° C. Without cooling the mixture, titrate it with Trilon B solution until it changes color and turns yellow.
