Solving crosswords is a hobby for many people, pleasant and useful entertainment, and also a way to while away a long journey. Thanks to the variety of types of crosswords, everyone can find a puzzle to their liking.
Classic crossword
This type of puzzle was invented at the beginning of our era. And crosswords became widespread in the 19th century, after many newspapers and magazines began to be published. But the crossword puzzle reached Russia only in 1925, appearing in the Leningrad magazine "Rezets". Now these puzzles are printed in various editions, as well as as independent collections. The rules of the classic crossword puzzle are simple - it consists of a grid of cells intersecting with each other. The task consists of fairly detailed definition questions. As variations, crosswords in puzzles, poems or pictures are common.
In St. Petersburg there is the International Club of Russian Crosswords "Crossword".
Scandinavian crossword
This view is a continuous field of cells, in some of which questions are written. The directions of the responses are indicated by arrows. Because of the small space in which to fit the lettering, the questions are short definitions, associations, or even abbreviations. In general, scandwords are more popular than classic crosswords. The density of the intersection of words in them is much higher, so it becomes easier to find the correct answers. However, there are also more complex types of Scandinavian crosswords. For example, in "capacious scanwords" in some cells more than one letter is inscribed, and in "hexagonal" words are inscribed in 6 directions at once.
Hungarian crossword
This variety is also called "filword". The Hungarian crossword puzzle is a square field with letters already inscribed, which make up the answers. However, words can be written in different directions and bend at right angles without intersecting. In simple filwords, clues are given to the answers - definitions or pictures. In more complex ones, only the number of words and their subject are indicated. A variation of the Hungarian crossword puzzle is English. In it, words can only go in a straight line, but their intersection is permissible.
Specialized crossword publications appeared in the 1990s.
Linear crossword
In this type of crossword puzzle, also called "chainword", the words go along a chain, one after another. Answers can have one or more letters in common. Sometimes a chain of a linear crossword puzzle can intersect itself - this type of puzzle is called a crossword puzzle.
Keyword
Keyword, or keyword consists of a field filled with numbers. Each number has its own letter. It is necessary to restore the crossword puzzle by filling it in with words. As a rule, the task contains a keyword, the letters of which are numbered with corresponding numbers. Corresponding to the key, you need to guess which words are encrypted in the crossword puzzle.
