An antique item made of interwoven pieces of leather is often in demand in the modern world. Of course, it is better to buy a whip for love joys in a specialized store. But a whip for a carnival costume can be made with your own hands.
It is necessary
- A piece of natural or artificial leather
- Glue
- Threads
- Needle
- Lash handle
- Safety pins
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare four pieces of leather for the lash. They should be 5-10 mm wide. The thicker the leather stripes, the more difficult it is to weave them into a lash. You can also take eight thinner pieces of skin.
Step 2
If you want your lash to taper towards the end, cut off some of the leather strips diagonally. If you make a cut from the beginning of the segment, the decrease in the diameter of the lash will be gradual. If cut from the middle or towards the end, the lash will have a more noticeable transition from the wide part to the narrow one.
Step 3
Attach the strips to any convenient bar. For example, this could be the back of a chair. If you cut off part of the width of the strips in the previous step, secure them with the wider side. You can secure them with pins. Spread out the leather strips and start braiding. Take the stripe on the far right and place it in the middle between the two inner stripes. Then take the leftmost strip and also place it between the stripes in the middle. Continue to weave, bringing the outermost pieces of leather to the center. In the event that you have prepared eight strips of leather, combine them together in two. Do not interlace paired sections. Imagine that each paired stripe is one whole stripe. Weave them together, just like four pieces. If you make a lash in eight parts, it will look more complicated and more interesting.
Step 4
After you have braided the entire lash, you will need to secure the end of it. To do this, take a needle thread and sew a few stitches through the ends of the strips. To hide the threads, cut off a small piece of leather and wrap it around the end of the lash. Glue it with good quality glue.
Step 5
Remove the opposite ends of the leather strips from the bar. Sew the ends together also using threads. Take the whip handle you prepared in advance. Lubricate the free ends of the lash with glue and wrap the glued side tightly around the handle. Squeeze in a vise or press the handle with a press until it fully engages the skin. After the glue is dry, you can decorate the junction of the handle and the leather strips with satin tape or other leather tape.
