There are important points to keep an eye on, whether you buy an expensive pipe or not. Of course, in the first case, the risks are much smaller, but they are always there.

Step 1
Tubes vary greatly in shape and appearance. They are long and short, with a wide variety of cups for tobacco and the shape of the pipe itself. The material from which this smoking device can be made also varies: foam (this is a sea mineral), heather (briar), pumpkin, corn, all kinds of wood and even polymers. The mouthpiece is made of materials, the list of which is striking in variety. Among other things, the tubes vary in weight and design. You have to choose one thing from this variety.
Step 2
If you are not an experienced smoker, choose a pipe with a length of 10-15 cm. With a shorter length, hot smoke will burn, and with a pipe that is too long it is difficult for a person who does not yet have smoking skills.
Step 3
The size of the bowl depends on how much you smoke. You must smoke your pipe all the way at a time to avoid extinguishing it in the process. Choose a cup for yourself. Also keep in mind that small tobacco requires a smaller bowl, and coarse tobacco needs more space - a large bowl is suitable for it. Small and wide is good for dark and aromatic tobacco, narrow and elongated - for light and dry, and large and slightly widened on top - for dry and coarsely cut.
Step 4
Once you've picked something that's right, go through to the quality check. Inspect the tube bushing. This is the part that serves as a connection for the shank and the mouthpiece. To remove it, you need to turn it a little and apply a little effort. If you just pull, the bushing should not budge. Also, it should not wobble or be unnecessarily tight. If the sleeve does not meet these requirements, do not purchase a tube, take a closer look at another model.
Step 5
After picking up a pipe with a good sleeve, inspect the flue duct. Its hole should be located in the very middle, almost at the bottom. The smoke channel, if you draw an imaginary plane along its line, should divide the pipe exactly in half. To check this, put a brush into the channel, see how it comes out, whether there are deviations. If the smoke channel in the pipe is uneven, the smoking process will not be so pleasant.
Step 6
There is another way to check the smoke channel. Breathe in air through the tube as if you were inhaling. A steady and quiet sound indicates that everything is in order. All sorts of whistles and gurgles should make you alert. Your best bet is to leave this tube and check others.
Step 7
It is very important that the tube has no external imperfections. Cracks or chips, various scratches - all this spoils its appearance, although it does not affect the quality of smoking. Unless you are choosing something rare and collectible, it is better to take a smoking device without external flaws.
