Freezelight, or light graffiti, is the art of painting with light. Photographers who used this technique in their work, which originated in 1910, were called "rayonists". Previously, the photographic equipment necessary for painting with light was not available to a wide range of photographers and therefore little known. Today the situation is different, and freezelight is experiencing its rebirth.

It is necessary

  • - Camera;
  • - flashlight.

Instructions

Step 1

The luminograph (freezlighter) creates the lines of the "pattern" with a light source - a mobile phone display, a lighter, a flashlight, etc. - and fixes the "pattern" in the photograph. At the same time, light is not just a means of illuminating an object, but the main artistic value.

Step 2

In order to “paint with light” professionally, in addition to developed spatial thinking, you will need good photographic equipment. But for a beginner freezlighter, a simple digital camera with a "night shooting" mode and an LED flashlight are enough. It is better to learn freezlighting together.

Step 3

Go into a dim room or close the window shades tightly. After choosing the night mode or the exposure time of 1-5 seconds in manual mode, fix the camera on a tripod or fix it on a stationary object.

Step 4

If you study without an assistant, set the camera to delay mode, that is, a mode in which the photographing will take place some time after pressing the button. If, according to the creative idea, you should not be visible in the frame, dress in dark clothes to match the background color. If a person should be visible, direct a diffused soft light at him.

Step 5

First, try to make a random movement with the flashlight. Draw in space and evaluate the result. Then "write" with light meaningful patterns, letters, etc. After gaining experience, move on to compositions with a large number of light sources. Change shutter speed, aperture, light sensitivity.

Step 6

Try to use lanterns of various shapes and colors for luminography, advertising and Christmas tree garlands, multi-lamp moving compositions, fluorescent lamps. An interesting effect is given by such reflective materials as foil, light-colored fabric, paper. When using sparklers, torches and candles outdoors, hide them under clear vessels to prevent the wind from blowing them out.
