In 2012, the prestigious Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the capital of Azerbaijan - Baku. On the eve of International Women's Day, a selection competition was held in the Great Hall of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where the jury, together with Russian spectators, chose a team that would be worthy to represent the country at the song competition. The stage was attended by famous artists - Dima Bilan and Yulia Volkova, Karina Koks - the former soloist of the Slivki group, graduates of the Star Factory. However, the team “Buranovskie Babushki” won the victory.

This is not the first time the group has submitted its work to the competition. "Grandmothers" also took part in the qualifying round of Eurovision-2010 with the song "Long-long birch bark and how to make an aishon out of it." At that time, the old women took the honorable third place.

"Buranovskie Babushki" is a small team headed by Olga Nikolaevna Tuktareva. Gathering together, the participants did not even think about the big stage, they just wanted to sing. But the growing interest of Europe in folklore lifted the original collective to a pedestal.

Most of the repertoire of "Babushki" is made up of national songs in the Udmurt language. They sing the way their great-grandmothers sang. However, this is not limited to. He sang the collective songs of Tsoi, Boris Grebenshchikov, compositions of the Beatles.

Aside from singing, active old ladies have many other concerns. They can easily cancel a concert if it's time to harvest - they live by what they have grown on their land. A museum was opened in his native village, the exhibits of which were a gramophone, old plates and other utensils that were found in the house. And the grandmothers' main dream is to revive the temple in their native Buranovo.

The team will go to Eurovision 2012 with the composition Party for Everybody. Although the competition has not yet passed, other countries have already become interested in the Buranovskiye Babushki. Japanese journalists wrote a story about an unusual group, and Finnish television is preparing a large program about grandmothers. They also receive invitations to other popular contests. It is known that in 2012 the team will go to the "New Wave" in Jurmala.
